About Connection EP

The name Xiao Quan sparks a question mark and confuses tons of listeners. His nationality, cultural background and behaviour are topics that everyone who knows him for the first time want to talk about. Those are also the themes he is more than happy to play with in his music. In fact, he has lived in Shenzhen, China for two years, when Oil Club wasn‘t even open.

Cultural symbols from Asia and Africa have appeared more and more frequently in world’s art scenes in recent years, although the status of self-consumption in content and consumption by the Western world is still unchangeable in a short time. As a producer from São Paulo, Xiao Quan’s "Connection" EP uses a generalized and concrete way to create cultural symbols as he operates them and make them sound normal and casual, which is impossible for many original creators of culture, especially in mainland China, which is almost derailed from its tradition now. Xiao Quan is just like us (Chinese people and producers), absorbing and using a large amount of information from around the world.

"Connection" EP is undoubtedly based on the Xiao Quan-style black humor, and the connection with the Asian and African culture he deeply loves. Unlike in the past, he really participated as a member of Asian culture through FunctionLab this time. From the first sound of "Rolling Barrel”, like the sound of a dragon coming out of the fog, drums from Asia and Africa came through and wore it to the end, warm and obscure. Does the rough Chinese vocal sample appearing in the track puzzle you? This is the voice that Xiao Quan doesn't understand very much but crazy in love with. The fun is self-evident. As for elaborate arrangements and superb production techniques, these have never been the case for Xiao Quan.

Xiao Quan 这个中文名字很大程度上代表了一个“？”，不知其用这种方式困惑了多少听众，他的国籍、文化背景和行为方式，是每个初识他的人都会感兴趣的话题，这也是他在音乐上乐于去玩味的绝大多数主题。事实上，他曾在中国深圳生活过两年，当时那里还没有 Oil Club。

《Connection》EP 毋容置疑的以 Xiao Quan 式黑色幽默为基底，与他心之所向的亚洲、非洲文化的一次连接。但与以往不同的是，这次他通过 FunctionLab，真正作为亚洲文化中的一员来参与。从《Rolling Barrel》的第一声犹如巨龙出雾的声响开始，来自亚洲和非洲的鼓点鱼贯而来、一穿到底，时而热情、时而晦涩。在曲子中间时不时出现的粗糙的中文采样，是否让你摸不着头脑？这就是 Xiao Quan 自己也听不太懂但是很喜欢的声音，其中的乐趣不言而喻。至于精巧的编排和高超的制作技术，这些从来不是能迷惑住 Xiao Quan 的东西。
